Prepare for your
River Safari

FAQs

We’ve put together frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your incredible journey on the Waiatoto River.

What time do your river safaris depart?

Our tours depart at 11am daily.
Please arrive 30 minutes before your tour departs to allow time to check-in, park, use the bathroom and get ready to go.

Our tours leave on time, so if you’re late arriving, you may miss your tour.

Will this tour suit me?

Some people ask if this is a thrill ride.

It is definitely not, the jet boat is our mode of transport into scenery and nature so stunning you will remember this river safari for the rest of your life.

Is there an age limit?

Not really! We can take babies from about 5 months up to any age and our easy-to-enter boat means it’s suitable for most abilities too.

What’s included in the BBQ?

Our optional local fare BBQ includes:

  • Crayfish (in season)

  • Venison

  • Whitebait

  • Gourmet sausages with sauce, bread and butter

  • Fresh homegrown seasonal salad greens

  • Refreshments

* Minimum of 6 people and 48-hour notice required.

What do I need to wear/bring?

We recommend wearing a warm jacket or top, long trousers and socks to deter the sandflies and sturdy footwear, such as walking shoes or hiking boots. Hats and sunglasses also come in handy.

Bring a small day pack for your group and a camera with plenty of memory space or extra film. And don’t forget your smile and sense of adventure!

What do you provide?

We supply you with a knowledgable driver/guide to ensure you have an unforgettable experience.

We’ll get you kitted out with a life jacket that fits you comfortably and a warm Swanndri woollen coat and gumboots if your suitcase only contains sandals and shorts. We also have insect repellent on board if you need it.

What will I see?

Our river safaris venture deep into the Haast UNESCO World Heritage area so you can expect to see stunning scenery. From majestic snow-capped mountains to huge boulders emerging from the riverbed there are photo-worthy sights at every turn. The native flora and fauna are just as spectacular, with verdant rainforest and beautiful birdlife common sights along the river.

Will I get wet? What about mobility?

No, not from the river water. If it rains, we put on the removable roof which will protect you from the rain. Worth noting that we live in a rainforest so going out in the rain is a very special experience. If you can get in and out of your vehicle ok, you can access the boat easily, this tour is designed for the 55+ age group.

Did we leave anything unanswered?
