Sustainability

Waiatoto River Safaris is committed to keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum, while creating an unforgettable river tour in the Haast UNESCO World Heritage area.

We strive to remain the best activity our clients have done in New Zealand. We have a fully compliant safe operating plan with Maritime New Zealand.

We have a Qualmark Environ Silver rating and Waiatoto River Safari is a member of Tourism Industry Aotearoa and has taken their tourism sustainability commitment.

We are proud to be working to off set our carbon foot print by 2025. We believe in looking after our environment. Please help us do this by leaving only foot prints and taking away wonderful memories and photos. We have taken the Tiaki Promise and the Tourism Sustainability Commitment which consists of 4 elements and a set of 12 commitments around economic, visitor, community and environment. The Tiake Promise means we will care for land, sea and nature, treading lightly and leaving no trace. Tavel safely, showing care and consideration for all, respecting culture and tavelling with an open heart and mind. Please join us as we share our learnings from this journey with you, so you may make a greater difference in our country.

Our work with the community

We are actively involved in the Haast community and are passionate about protecting and preserving the natural habit and the wildlife that lives there. That’s why we assist in transporting and releasing critically endagered Kiwi as part of the Haast-Tokoeka Kiwi Programme.

It’s also why a portion of every guest’s fare goes towards the Haast-Tokoeka programme.

Guest Reviews

“If you have a spare day in Haast this is well worth doing. The trip is professionally run by people with good local knowledge and are passionate about the area they live in.”
