This is a large river system surrounded by snow capped mountains scenery and temperate rain forest. Tours can be arranged on demand with duration to suit. A half day minimum tour is recommended.

Jacksons Bay
This remote spot was the site of an attempted European settlement in the 1870s. Only a few people live here now, however there are several walks you can do around the stunning, rugged coastline. There is a small fishing fleet operating from the jetty, so make sure you have a meal at the Craypot, right on the beach – New Zealand's freshest fish and chips with the world's greatest view! Take a walk to Jackson Head and see the seals on the rocks or even a stroll to Smooth water Bay.
In addition to the many activities on offer in the area, there are also Home stays, hotel, lodges, motels, cafés, restaurants, souvenir shops, jade shop, supermarkets, gas stations, postal services, repair shops and an interesting Information centre.
